Algae Dataset
Every data hub, dataset, sensor, variable, paper and limitation in one tree — and for each: where it comes from, how far back it goes, how often it captures, why it belongs in a cholera study, and why it does not work everywhere.

Why it is used for cholera.
Extensively validated · bias-corrected across sensors · the reference product for climate work
Why not — catalogue limitation. 4 km is far too coarse for any inland water body. Case-2 (turbid) bias remains inside the estuary.
Site applicability
| Site | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Chakaria HDSS | YES | ESSENTIAL — this is THE chlorophyll record for Chakaria's coastal waters |
| Matlab HDSS | PARTIAL | Regional forcing only — 4 km cannot resolve the Meghna |
| Dhaka City | NOT APPLICABLE | NOT APPLICABLE — 4 km, 300 km inland |

Typed limitations (2)
CRITICAL 4 km pixel cannot resolve any inland water body spatial blocks Matlab blocks Dhaka
A single OC-CCI pixel is 16 km2. The widest reach of the Meghna is 6 km and every Dhaka lake is under 1 km across, so an inland pixel is dominated by land reflectance. The value returned is not a measurement of that water.
What to do: Use it as a REGIONAL FORCING term only, prefixed reg_ in the merged panel so it cannot be misread as local exposure. For inland chlorophyll use Sentinel-2.
MEDIUM Monthly cadence cannot resolve a two-week bloom temporal
OC-CCI monthly is the defensible cadence for this product, but a bloom that initiates and collapses inside four weeks is invisible in it.
What to do: Pair with MODIS 8-day or VIIRS daily where the coastal signal needs finer timing - accepting that those are noisier.
